Periodontal Maintenance for Gum Disease Prevention
Periodontal maintenance is performed after you have had gum disease treatment. The bacteria in your mouth will always be present but must be controlled so that it does not create an active infection. These gum disease prevention visits are scheduled at regular intervals, typically every three to four months and are similar to a deep cleaning. Our hygienist will remove the plaque and calculus from your teeth to prevent future infection.
Treating gum disease can help prevent many health issues including bone loss and tooth loss. Gum disease has been linked to a variety of health conditions including stroke, heart disease, dementia, low birth weight babies, and premature labor. Periodontal maintenance helps prevent gum disease from reoccurring or worsening. It is important to continue your maintenance program to ensure your mouth remains healthy for years to come!
