What Are Your TMJ Treatment Options?
As each case of TMJ is unique, TMJ treatments will also be crafted to meet your specific needs. Dr. Mamrick has several TMJ treatment options, depending on the cause of your condition and any damage you may have sustained as a result. TMJ treatments may consist of:
- Aligning your bite with occlusal adjustment
- Orthodontic treatment
- Splint therapy
- Mouth guards to address teeth grinding
How Can an Occlusal Adjustment Alleviate Jaw Pain?
When your teeth and jaw are at rest, they should fit together comfortably. However, this is not always the case. If you have worn your teeth down, your teeth have shifted into a new position, or you have had a crown or filling placed that sits too high, you may experience jaw pain as a result. Dr. Mamrick can test your bite to find the point of contact that is keeping your teeth from resting together and reshape it so that you can find immediate relief from jaw pain.
Dr. Mamrick may also recommend noninvasive at-home TMJ treatments to alleviate your jaw pain, such as warm compresses and over-the-counter anti-inflammatory medication. Stretches performed to relax the facial muscles can also be helpful to ease tension in the jaw.
